SIM card preparation (no preinstalled SIM card)


Required items before start:

  • The nano SIM card for the LEMAN RemoteID drone tracker
  • PIN code for SIM card
  • A smartphone

Please follow carefully the steps to prepare the SIM card for the LEMAN RemoteID drone tracker.

If you don't have a SIM Card yet

Several operators offering cellular data services exist in every country. You should find an operator that has the best coverage in the area of your operations. In certain cases, having a foreign SIM card could be the better choice. This way it is possible to use the advantage of roaming, and switch automatically between the networks, when coverage from the actual network is too weak.

 

 

Configuring the SIM Card: Removing the SIM PIN request at boot

The tracker will not connect to data services if the SIM card asks for the PIN when booting. The procedure below describes how to remove a PIN request:

  1. Make sure that smartphone is switched off
  2. Insert the nano SIM card into the smartphone (this procedure may be different depending on the phone brand and model)
  3. Turn the smartphone on
  4. If the smartphone asks for the PIN, enter the code. If not, skip steps 5. and 6. and go to “Other configuration” below.
  5. Enter the PIN for the SIM card. If the PIN code is unknown, don't try to guess it. Check your carrier's customer service page or the documents that came with the SIM card. Alternatively, please contact the carrier/mobile operator customer support.
  6. Configure the SIM card to not ask for the PIN at the boot, using the following steps (this procedure may be different depending on phone brand and model):
    • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > SIM PIN. Then TURN OFF the SIM PIN
    • Android: Settings > Security > Set up SIM card lock. UNCHECK Lock SIM Card

 

Other configuration

  1. Depending on the SIM card mobile operator, you will be requested to activate your SIM Card. This is done depending on the type of subscription contract. For example, it may be required to send an SMS to activate the subscription.
  2. Depending on the subscription, it may be required to purchase a data package. Please be sure to have enough data before using the LEMAN RomoteID drone tracker. A subscription of 500 MB/year is large enough for standard drone usage.
